Baby suffers burns in Coolie Town house fire

A fifteen-month-old baby boy suffered burns to the body as a result of a house fire at Coolie Town on Sunday evening.

According to the Saint Lucia Fire Service, the Castries Fire Station received a call on Sunday, June 21, 2020, at approximately 9.55 pm, informing of a house fire at Coolie Town, Castries.

The responding officers found that the fire was confined to one bedroom of the structure, which was of wooden and concrete construction, measuring approximately 34 x 20 feet.

Moderate damage was done to the room as the crew was able to control and extinguish the fire without difficulty. 

Due to this incident, emergency personnel cleaned and treated the wounds of a 15-month-old infant who was reported to have been in the structure at the commencement of the fire.

The infant sustained burns to his back, face and hands. He was transported to the OKEU Hospital in a stable condition.
