Murders up in Barbados, down in T&T, Jamaica
Homicides in Barbados as of January 24, 2019, stand at eight.
This is an increase over the number for this same period last year. As of April 5, 2018, Barbados had now reached the same number of murders - eight.
And 2019's total for January to date, surpasses the tally for the period of January to April 2017 as well.
The tally by the fourth month of the year, last year, 2018, was almost a 40-percent increase over the number of murders reported by the same time in 2017. Speaking to Loop in April 2018, the then Police Public Relations Officer, Acting Inspector Rodney Inniss told Loop News that the number had risen "by three". In 2017, by the start of April, the island had recorded five murders.
The current Police Spokesperson, Sargeant Michael Blackman confirmed that the island has recorded eight unnatural deaths to date.

In St. Lucia, the 2019 murder total for January so far, stands at two.
Trinidad and Tobago
In Trinidad and Tobago, the murder toll as of January 24, 2019, is 32. The murder toll was 48 for the same period last year.
In Jamaica, the stats as of today are unknown, but the murder toll stood at 20 for the first week of the year, from January 1 to January 7, 2019; and that was a significant reduction from 2018 when over 45 murders were recorded for the first seven days of 2018.
However, more recently, the Olympic Gardens Police in Jamaica are probing the circumstances surrounding the latest reported murder of two men and the injuring of four others, including a police officer, during a shooting incident in Olympic Gardens, St Andrew on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. The deceased men were identified as 29-year-old Andre Reid of Alloy Avenue, Kingston 11 and 21-year-old Ackeem Ffrench of Poinciana Avenue, Kingston 11.
In August Town, St. Andrew, Jamaica, a curfew was imposed in sections of August Town, which has been the scene of multiple killings since the start of the new year. The curfew ran from Sunday, January 20, to Tuesday, January 22, 2019. It was the second time since the start of 2019 that a curfew had to be imposed in the area.
