BNCPTA Head advises parents to work with teachers

Parents need to take time and spend quality time with their children.

Parents and guardians have been told to work with principals and teachers, especially at new schools.

The President of the Barbados National Council of Parent-Teacher Associations (BNCPTA), Shone Gibbs has issued this advice and other words of wisdom to guide parents ahead of the start of the new school academic year. Furthermore, he stressed that new parents with children starting school for the first time ever need to start right and keep on track fostering the best relations between home and school. 

10 pieces of advice for parents from Gibbs below: 

  1. Get on board and stay on board
  2. Develop a positive relationship with your child's teacher and the school
  3. Do your part to ensure that you support in whatever way you can. Actively participate in the PTA.
  4. Speak positively about your child's teacher and the school
  5. Ask questions 
  6. Share your ideas, resources and expertise willingly
  7. Get to know the other parents in your child's class and build strong networks with them
  8. Find out and follow the school's protocols/policies for handling any grievances
  9. Reinforce the school rules/policies with your child 
  10. Be excited about your child's progress and celebrate along the way

The Michaelmas term of the academic year 2019-2020 is scheduled to start on September 9, 2019.
