Bruceville shooting victim arrested for Fisheries Complex murder
A man who was shot in the head in Bruceville, Vieux Fort on Monday, January 28 has been arrested and charged for the earlier murder of a man at the Vieux Fort Fisheries Complex.
The police have issued a release stating: "On Thursday, February 7, 2019, 20-year-old Miguel Soumere of Bruceville, Vieux Fort was formally charged for causing the death of 30-year-old, Melvin George on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Vieux Fort.
Soumere was charged for the offence of murder, contrary to Section 85 of the Criminal Code Chapter 3.01 of the Revised Laws of St. Lucia 2013.
He was taken to the Second District Court for a bail hearing, where he was remanded into custody. He is expected to return before the court on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, for case management.
The Royal St. Lucia Police Force wishes to thank the members of public who were instrumental in bringing a resolution to this matter."
George’s mother previously told Loop News that the incident left the family in a state of shock and grief. She described the scene saying, “My back was turned serving someone…by the time I turned back, I saw somebody jumped on the stall and then I heard “bam” and saw my son falling to the ground.”
Soumere's cousin, Irvin ‘Block Chest’ Julian, was charged last week with the attempted murder of Soumere.
Soumere was charged for the murder of George upon being released from hospital. He is believed to have sustained significant eye damage.
