Buju Banton announced for Love and Harmony Cruise 2020

Buju Banton has been announced for next year’s Love and Harmony Cruise.

Banton, who is currently on his Long Walk to Freedom tour through the Caribbean, will join the likes of Beres Hammond, Cocoa Tea, Wayne Wonder and Nadine Sutherland on the annual party cruise.

The rest of the cast will be announced over the next few months.

Ronnie Tomlinson, Banton’s publicist from the firm Destine Media, told Loop the artist will perform on the cruise overnight.

Though the ship will sail from Fort Lauderdale in the United States, Banton will join the cruise in The Bahamas and disembark in Ocho Rios, Jamaica.

Tomlinson said the 45-year-old singer, real name Mark Myrie, is excited about the cruise.

Love and Harmony will take place in April. Dates are yet to be announced.

Tomlinson, who also works as the publicist for the event, said 2020 will mark the cruise’s fourth year.

Love and Harmony takes place aboard one of Celebrity Cruise’s ships over six days.

The event was co-founded by Steven “DJ Jabba” Beckford, a popular New York-based DJ of Jamaican descent.

Since inception, the cruise has featured performances from Hammond, who has become a staple at the event, Barrington Levy, Tiger, Sanchez, Marcia Griffith, Shabba Ranks, Konshens, Dexter Daps and Elephant Man among many others.

The cruise is not only limited to reggae and dancehall as the organisers attempt to create the ultimate Caribbean event. There are soca artists on board each year and this year, R&B act The Manhattans were included on the cast of performers.

This year a comedy show was also added to the array of events which also includes a Masquerade Ball.

Tomlinson said LHC caters for generations of people and has something for everyone from karaoke to domino tournaments.

Describing the event as a true family one with good vibes and love, she said regulars now call themselves the Harmonisers and the atmosphere is so relaxed that walking with tons of clothing to dress up is not a requirement.

To round off the Caribbean experience, head chef from New York-based Jamaican restaurant The Door helps to put together the menu which consists of favourites such as porridge, oxtail, and Curry goat, among others.
