Coronavirus fears have resulted in the majority of Chinese businesses in the town of Vieux-Fort being closed for the past few weeks.

As of this morning, Wednesday, March 18, 2020, out of the nine businesses owned by Chinese people in Vieux-Fort, only one was opened.

Patrons who visited those business houses were greeted with the notice: “We are closed until March 30.”

Workers employed with those business houses told Loop News that their employers closed their business temporarily because of the coronavirus, which has now reached our shores.

The owner of the only Chinese establishment which remains opened in the town of Vieux-Fort told Loop News that her business will remain open until the government forces all businesses on the island to close.

“I need money... Those people who close their businesses don’t need money,” the stern-faced Chinese lady, who has been living in Saint Lucia for many years, told Loop News.

Most of the Chinese business houses in Vieux-Fort are popular.
