COVID-19: Sandals to temporarily close all its hotels from March 30
The Caribbean’s leading hotel chain, Sandals Resorts, will be temporarily closing all its hotels between March 30 and May 15, 2020 as a result of the novel coronavirus (COViD-19) which is disrupting life in every sector around the globe.
Sandals says its Beaches Resorts will also be closed during the period. As a result, the hotel chain will not be accepting any new bookings after March 23.
“Recent global travel warnings, coupled with airline carrier cancellations have compelled us to make the difficult decision to close all Sandals and Beaches Resorts…,” said Sandals Chairman, Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart in a letter to guests.
“Never could we have imagined the impact the current global crisis would have on the word,” Stewart added.
He described the times as “unprecedented” while stating that the safety and health of the hotel’s guests were of "paramount importance".
Stewart sought to assure that both Sandals and the Caribbean are resilient and will bounce back stronger than before once the crisis has passed.
The tourism mogul said the hotel chain will use the down time to make further enhancements to its properties.
