Created : 28 August 2017
Two West Indians – Darren Sammy and Samuel Badree - have been named to a World X1 squad to play three Twenty20 (T20) matches in Pakistan in a broad effort to bring back international cricket to that country in September.
Sammy and Badree, two key global figures in T20 cricket, are among players from the West Indies, England, Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, who are to take on the Pakistanis in Lahore.
The World X1 team is to be captained by South African Faf Du Plessis.
Depending on the success of the promotional series, the West Indies may tour Pakistan for three T20 matches in November.
Talks are also on for Sri Lanka to tour the country where an attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009, caused international teams to quit touring the country.
Only Zimbabwe in 2015, have played there since, with their three One Day Internationals and two T20 matches being marred by a suicide bombing incident outside the Lahore Stadium.
