Fedee: Historic cruise ship arrival set for Saturday
Created : 10 January 2018
Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Tourism, Information and Broadcasting Dominic Fedee gave a positive outlook on the cruise ship sector for 2018.
Fedee noted that on Saturday, January 13, 2018, St Lucia will for the first time host a quantum-class vessel, with about 5000 passengers descending on our shores from a single ship. That ship is Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas.
The minister also said that cruise arrivals are currently at a pace that would exceed 2017 numbers.
Last year’s Point Seraphine Berth One Extension Project was done to facilitate these larger vessels.
Fedee says that work needs to be done to create linkages so that an uptick in cruise arrivals spreads across the economy. The village tourism initiative seeks to make strides in this area starting in the first quarter of the year.
