A criminal investigation has been triggered at the City Constabulary following a firearm and ammunition going missing, Loop News has confirmed.

According to Press and Communications Manager at the Office of the Mayor, Jason Hullingseed, the weapon was reported missing on April 24, 2020. He could not give any further details as the matter is under investigation.

"The report has been submitted to Mayor Francis and the matter is currently in the hands of the Criminal Investigation Department who are actively pursuing the investigation and at this time we can't speak to the 'nitty gritties' as you would understand the sensitivity of this incident," Hullingseed explained.

"We, however, look forward to a successful investigation," he added.

The calibre of weapon was not made public.

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force was contacted on the matter but refused comment.
