Grace Combined students fitness walk ahead of annual road race
Over the past few years, the Grace RC Combined School has been embarking on a fitness walk program, geared at encouraging its students to live a healthy lifestyle and also to prepare them for the annual school road race.
Yesterday, September 24, 2019, the infant’s department of the school held a fitness walk in the community and today it’s the turn of the junior and senior students.
According to the principal of the school, Danny Cooman, over the years the school has not been performing well in the road races. He said he expects it to perform much better this year, due to its annual fitness walk which its students have shown immense interest in and has been well supported by their parents.
“Over the past few years, we have not been shining in the road race… but this year we are doing our best to ensure our performance improves,” Cooman told Loop News.
The annual schools road-race is scheduled for November.
Cooman said that the school also places a lot of emphasis on a healthy lifestyle, adding that the fitness walk will further encourage the students to live a healthy life and avoid unhealthy foods.
“We have encouraged our students to keep fit…stay healthy and eat healthy and keep away from unhealthy snacks” Cooman said.
However, he lamented that the school faces certain challenges in keeping its students fit.
“We don’t have a playing field near the school, so we have to utilize other parts of the community to keep our students fit and healthy,” he said.
