Group Protests Outside Senate Demanding Ubaldus Raymond’s Resignation
Created : 28 February 2017
“We are here today to object to the unethical behaviour of Ubaldus Raymond,” Allron Baptiste, the leader of the group said.
The group, which called itself ‘I Will Stand’ gathered directly opposite the entrance to the parliament building just before senators arrived for their scheduled senate meeting. Raymond is the Leader of Government Business in the senate.
He is currently awaiting a court case, scheduled for 7 April, featuring himself and an 18-year-old student who will be answering a charge of blackmail. She is alleged to have blackmailed Raymond.
The case stemmed from an incident which surfaced over social media last month between the two but which begun to unfold last December, placing the Minister at its center and which generated calls from certain quarters for his resignation.
The scandal is about nude photos purporting to be the Minister and extracts of a WhatsApp conversation between himself and the young woman circulating in the public domain. She has been granted bail to the tune of $10,000.
“We standing up for the youths of the country. Ubaldus should be removed for many reasons,” Baptiste said.
The protesters held aloft placards and were all dressed in white T-shirts.
