Heartache as toddler dies after Micoud crash

Waves of sadness flooded social media upon news of the death of a 3-year-old boy who had been fighting for his life in hospital.

Rissa McLean, mother of Alexander, posted on Facebook on Sunday that her son was in a coma with a fractured spine. She posted of plans to raise money to transport him to Martinique for further treatment, while praising the doctors and nurses of Victoria Hospital for doing all they could to keep him alive.

Mclean’s family was involved in a car accident in which their vehicle struck a utility pole in Escap, Micoud on Saturday, Januray 20, 2018. Mclean posted that both her mother’s legs had been broken as well as her daughter’s arm.

The family set up a GoFundMe for a medical fund where the family commented on the tragedy saying,

“It is with great sadness we announce that little Alex has left us this morning. We take solace in knowing that he is with God!

There is nothing a parent can experience that is more traumatic than the death of a child. Losing their little angel Alex may at this time be truly the most inconsolable pain they will know. Being able to rely on loving family and friends to help provide support has truly been their saving grace. We are sincerely grateful for all of the donations and heartfelt messages supporting Rissa and her family and even more for praying for Alex's life. We will appreciate more your continued support in honoring his amazing life which was cut short. Though no one will ever be the same, we are all much better for the blessing of his life. Thank you all for loving Alex with us.

*Please give us time to process our grief and understand if we cannot respond right away.”

On social media people mourned the loss with comments such as:

“Thoughts, prayers, reflections... Of Rissa Mclean. For your strength and comfort.”

“This is beyond sad. My heart goes out to this family.”

“My Deepest Condolences goes out to Rissa Mclean. I learnt that Today you lost a loved one. I am so sorry for your loss. I am not sure how to express how much this has saddened me, but this news has me in a state of utter and complete shock. May God be with you and your family in this time of mourning.”

" This is the saddest day for little Alexander's family. I just got the news that he didn't make it. I know he fought well. No parent should have to go through this. Rest in peace young man. My last moments with you were playing catch and also when you threw my jump rings down. RiP.😢😢 "

This is the fourth road fatality so far in St Lucia this year.
