High-level meeting convened after non-national quarantined in St Lucia

A high-level meeting is currently underway at the Office of the Prime Minister to discuss Saint Lucia's general response to the Coronavirus.

The emergency meeting comes after a non-national patient was medically quarantined on Tuesday, February 11, 2020.

The meeting is being chaired by acting Prime Minister, Ezechiel Joseph.

Also present is the Chief Medical Officer Dr Sharon Belmar George; the Immigration Department; Customs Department; Health Minister Senator Mary Isaac; Cabinet Secretary; Tourism Minister Dominic Fedee and his Permanent Secretary; National Security Minister Senator Hermangild Francis and Deputy Police Commissioner Milton Desir.

Matters down for discussion include sample processing and expediting samples from the quarantined patient to be sent to Trinidad for testing, the individual's travel history before he arrived from Martinique and the way forward on a national level.

The quarantined patient arrived via a private yacht from Martinique on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Health has promised an update following Wednesday's meeting.
