Journalist Miguel Fevrier behind bars at Bordelais
Journalist and former president of the defunct Media Association of Saint Lucia, Miguel Fevrier, will be a guest at the island’s sole prison, the Bordelais Correctional Facility, this weekend.
Fevrier was arrested Tuesday of this week by police who served him with a Commitment Warrant issued by the court for failing to abide by a previous court order.
From the time of his arrest up to the time he was transported to the correctional facility in Dennery Friday afternoon, September 27, 2019, Fevrier was in police custody, housed at Custody Suites, the name given to a few jail cells under police supervision in Castries.
The court order Fevrier failed to abide by involved him doing community service and making monthly payments of a certain amount, commitments he failed to abide by that arose from a previous court case prior to him becoming a media personality.
Attorneys for Fevrier tried unsuccessfully Friday to have the court grant him an extension for meeting the payments and completing the community service.
Loop News learned that the warrant served on Fevrier this week was the second one in over a year for the same matter.
It is uncertain when Fevrier will return to court for another attempt at pursuing a magistrate to grant him more time to meet his court required commitments. However, reports are that his attorneys may make another attempt next week.
