Jury selection to begin in Roger Pratt trial
Deceased, Roger Pratt
Jury selection is expected to begin on Friday, January 24, 2020, in the trial of four Vieux Fort residents accused of the brutal 2014 killing of British national Roger Pratt.
The trial, which was scheduled to begin on Monday, January 20, 2020, was adjourned due to several issues including a fitness hearing for one of the accused, Richie Kern, to determine his competency to stand trial and an island-wide blackout on Tuesday which lasted for a couple of hours.
As a result, the judge was forced to cancel all court matters for the day, delaying the competency hearing one more day.
On Wednesday, January 22, following a competency hearing, it was determined Richie Kern is indeed fit to stand trial and will be joining his three codefendants in the Roger Pratt murder trial.
Jury selection for the murder trial is expected to take place tomorrow, January 24, 2020, followed by legal arguments over evidence to be presented in court.
The Roger Pratt murder trial is expected to begin on Monday, January 27, an attorney close to the case told Loop News Thursday.
High court Judge, Madam Justice Margaret Price Findley will be presiding over the trial.
The four accused of Roger Pratt's death are Jeromine 'World Boss' Jones, Richie Kern Aka Yellow, Kervin Devaux and Fanis Jospeh aka Ras –Seize - Zoe.
Roger Pratt, 62, was killed and his wife Margaret, 60, was injured when bandits attacked their boat as it lay anchored in the Vieux Fort bay on the evening of January 14, 2014.
The couple was on their dream vacation sailing around the world when tragedy struck.
62-year-old retired consultant Roger Pratt was beaten and left to drown.
