At least three people made homeless by La Clery fire

At least three people are homeless after an early morning fire at La Clery, Castries.

According to Miss Stacy Joseph of the Saint Lucia Fire Service, the department responded to the call at approximately 2.39 am Saturday, May 16, 2020.

"Two structures sustained damages as a result of the blaze," Joseph explained.

"A plywood structure, measuring approximately 29 by 19 feet with galvanize roof was completely destroyed. The fire spread to a nearby two-story mixed construction structure, the first floor ordinary construction measuring 24 by 12 feet and the second floor was a wood frame construction measuring 24 feet x 22 feet was unoccupied, however, 85 to 90 percent of the structure was damaged."

Joseph explained the firefighters encountered a situation with the supply of water, as there was no water in the area.

Back up was received by Babonneau and Gros Islet Fire Stations.

There were three occupants of the completely damaged structure, however, they sustained no injuries.
