Loop reporter Ricqcolia Phillip has been shortlisted for a Caribbean Tourism Organisation (CTO) award.

Phillip was one of three writers shortlisted in the category No Anansi Story! Best Feature by a Caribbean-based Journalist (that appeared in Caribbean-based media).

Her submission, "UberSoca Cruise: The CARICOM of the Soca Experience” was based on her experience covering the popular Ubsersoca event last November.

The other shortlisted writers are Catherine Morris whose story “Soufriere Models Community Tourism”  was published in the St. Lucia Star and Leisha Wong: whose story “Island Inspired”  was published in Cayman Airways Skies.

In assessing Phillip's piece, the judges said it contained very good content and relevance to the subject of tourism content and showed elements of Caribbean culture exported to one destination – a Caricom mixture and one containing people and their music coming together in one spot.

"The writing was lively and descriptive and conveyed a good feeling of having great enjoyed in an environment of friendliness and togetherness. The language used was inviting and in spots exciting.  The article conveyed a good feeling of visitors having a grand and uninhibited time."

Trinidadian photographer Jeff Mayers was also shortlisted for the category Best Photograph in conjunction with a Feature article for his photo accompanying Marshelle Haseley’s “Trinidad Carnival…More Than Meets The Eye” in Panache.

Among those shortlisted as well is popular America television personality Ryan Seacrest for the Golden Mic category for a feature on The Bahamas that aired on his daytime show Ryan and Kelly.

Winners will be announced at the Caribbean Tourism Industry Awards Gala during Caribbean Week NewYork, on Thursday, June 6.
