Male individual arrested for threatening PM Allen Chastanet
One day after Acting Commissioner of Police, Milton Desir, confirmed that an investigation into threats made against Saint Lucian Prime Minister Allen Chastanet was underway, an arrest has been made.
According to sources, a male individual was arrested in Soufriere Wednesday afternoon, April 1, 2020, in connection with the incident.
In the 27-second video, which has been making rounds on social media, a male individual, who concealed his identity, is seen and heard issuing threats of death, torture and violence against Prime Minister Chastanet.
The threats are allegedly being made in reaction to a decision by the prime minister to institute a partial shutdown and curfew on the island, as part of Saint Lucia’s COVID-19 response protocols.
The RSLPF has condemned such acts and is urging individuals to refrain from doing such.
According to the criminal code and the computer misuse act, it is an offence to make use of threatening words to anyone and to use profanity on social media.
The individual is expected to be charged for the offences.
