Man charged for video death threat against Prime Minister Chastanet

Steve Kowan Alexander, a Soufriere resident, has been formally charged in connection with a viral video which has been making rounds on social media, issuing death threats against Prime Minister Allen Chastanet.
Alexander, who is originally from Canaries, was arrested on April 1, 2020, and was charged on Friday, April 3, 2020, for threats and for abusive and insulting behaviour.
In the viral video, it is alleged, the 28-year-old, who concealed his identity with a bandana, threatened to torture and kill Prime Minister Chastanet for implementing a 24-hour curfew as part of Saint Lucia’s emergency protocols against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alexander has been remanded in custody until April 8, 2020.
