Missing Carnival 2020: That is my annual therapy - Augier
COVID-19 has ravaged the world in so many ways.
This year, one of the biggest disappointments for us here in Saint Lucia is not being unable to partake in our annual Carnival festivities.
Due to the pandemic, Carnival has been postponed to 2021 which seems a lifetime away
Many Saint Lucians have expressed a yearning as a result of not being able to play mas this year. Among them is cultural guru Senator Adrian Augier, band member of Tribe of Twel who says mas camp is one of the things he will miss the most.
“For me personally, I will miss my mas camp. That is my annual therapy that keeps me sane. I go there and I lose myself in the process and it's wonderful and we have a wonderful team of people around us, particularly Tribe of Twel, which has had five years of unprecedented success and we are very proud of that. So, I will miss that.”
While he will miss the Carnival celebrations this year, Mr Augier says he is more concerned about the music industry which is adversely being affected by the current pandemic. With the lack of Carnival this year, musicians will not have a platform to perform and share their music, which affects their income.
He noted that according to Senator Fortuna Belrose, the sector will be considered, which he said he is happy to hear.
Carnival this year was set to take place in July of 2020.
Most of the bands had already launched their costume line ups for the year.
