Police Commissioner Severin Moncherry is taking the fight to the criminals with heightened police patrols around the island.

The Top Cop made the disclosure upon his return at the helm of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) following eight months vacation leave.

The island has recorded 34 homicides to date and the RSLPF has confirmed an increase in serious crimes following the relaxing of the curfew which was put in place to control the spread of the coronavirus.

"You would be seeing boots on the streets and we going to be having a lot of operations because we going to take the fight to the criminals," Moncherry said.

Law enforcement has recorded several successes recently, especially in retrieving illegal fireaems and ammunition off the streets.

"Sometimes there will be a level of inconvenience, I ask members of the public to bear with us because it is for the better good."
