Murdered Trini's body returned home

Trinidad & Tobago Newsday reports that Richie Ramdass' body has been returned to Trinidad.

Ramdass was killed in Vieux Fort on New Year's Eve alongside another foreign national from Venezuela, bringing the final homicide total for 2017 to a record 60.

Ramdass' family had sought financial assistance from Trinidad's government to bring his body back but reportedly did not receive any.

The slain 24-year-old's mother, Nalini Gopi, told Newsday that the family was barely able to raise TT$ 50,000 needed for all the expenses (about EC$ 20,000) and she herself made the trip to St Lucia to identify and collect the body, 19 days after the killing.

Gopi says that her son will be cremated and that a funeral will be held on Friday.
