New House Speaker Identified
The vacancy left by Leonne Theodore-John's resignation in the House of Assembly will soon be filled.
Loop News today was reliably informed that someone has already been identified to become Speaker of the House, the position that was revealed to have become vacant yesterday.
The government source declined to give further details saying that this would be up to the prime minister.
The source however stated that the position will not remain vacant for too long given that government is almost ready to present the 2018/2019 budget.
Theodore-John's resignation became effective the first of this month. She will take up a position as Minister Counsellor to the St. Lucia High Commission in London.
Speaking about her role as Speaker of the House, Theodore-John said it was one she thoroughly enjoyed. She thanked the prime minister, Cabinet of Ministers and parliamentarians in reposing their confidence in her for the one year and seven months she occupied the position.
