Despite the issues plaguing the Vieux-Fort Public Library, which has resulted in its adult section being closed for a year and a half and its children’s section almost nonfunctional, there has been no official word from government as to its plans for the library.

Attempts to get a comment from the Ministry of Education, under which the library falls under, were futile.

However, a source in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Port Services and Transport told Loop News that the government has not decided how to deal with the situation.

“It’s either a new structure is built in another location to house the library, or it be relocated temporarily in another building,” the source said.

“One of the reasons why the library can’t be renovated is because the building belongs to the Ministry of Social Transformation,” the source added.

Since the closure of the adult section of the library in August 2018, there was a move to relocate it. A few buildings were identified in the town of Vieux-Fort for its relocation, but government felt their rents were too exorbitant.

The situation is also worrying to some staff of the Ministry of Education, who expressed the view that Vieux-Fortians are too tolerant.

In the meantime, residents of Vieux-Fort, especially students, are left annoyed, expressing the view that it is only in Vieux-Fort such a problem will exist for so long without government intervention.
