Opposition Leader Philip Pierre predicts Saint Lucia's general elections will be called before the end of this year.

The disclosure by the SLP leader was made during an appearance on Blazin 99.3 the Morning Heat on Wednesday August 12, 2020.

The prediction by Pierre follows an announcement by Prime Minister Allen Chastanet in June 2020 that elections will be called soon.

The next election is constitutionally due by June 2021, however, speculation is rife that an early election will be called.

"We know what the blueprint is going to be, there will be no surprises," Pierre told Morning Heat hosts, Franny and Scady.

According to the veteran politician, local administrations tend to follow after Jamaica.

Earlier this week, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced a September 3, 2020, date for elections there.

Jamaica's previous elections were held on February 25, 2016.

Pierre has predicted a date no later than December 11, 2020: "We figure out 3rd of September, we give them two weeks to settle for an October, November elections... It must happen before 11 December," Pierre said.
