PM calls out ‘irresponsible’ journalism that ‘tarnishes’ his name
Created : 20 September 2016
During yesterday’s press briefing, Prime Minister Allen Chastanet addressed what he viewed as ‘irresponsible’ journalism that ‘tarnished’ his name in a manner he said he only expects from the Labour Party.
The Prime Minister spoke of an incident where HTS Television Journalist, Rehani Isidore, had questioned him about the UK’s Prince Harry staying at the Chastanet owned Coco Palm Hotel which is managed by his sister.
Chastanet took serious umbrage at this question even being asked as he said it suggested serious impropriety on his part. The Prime Minister pointed to his impartial tenure as Minister of Tourism as it concerned his business dealings and maintained that the Prince Harry matter had nothing to do with him. He said that the prince’s visit is run through the Governor General’s office and that he would be staying on his boat while in St Lucia.
At the press briefing, Chastanet said he would be open with journalists but asked that they refrain from disrespecting him or pose questions that tarnish his name.
