PM: Reports of Ubaldus Raymond resigning 'not true'
Created : 9 April 2019
Speaking with reporters earlier today, Prime Minister Allen Chastanet said that contrary to recent reports, Ubaldus Raymond has not, in fact, resigned from the Senate and as Minister of Public Service.
Reports broke widely on Friday, April 5, 2019, that Raymond had stepped down in the wake of voice recordings allegedly between Raymond and a woman with a Trinidadian accent going viral on social media. The conversation was at times salacious in nature and also including some talk of government business.
This was the second social media scandal said to involve Raymond - he was embroiled in a blackmail case involving two 18-year-old women concerning purported nude photos of himself in 2017.
The prime minister told reporters that an investigation into the new situation is ongoing and that he would prefer to comment only after ascertaining the facts.
