PM: St Lucia and Taiwan are so much alike
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet posted the following to his official Facebook page today:
"The people of Taiwan are warm, welcoming, innovative and making their mark in the world despite the challenges they face. Although geographically we may be separated, we are so much alike and we have a common goal of wanting to contribute more to the global landscape.
From the time we took office, as a Government our aim was to ensure we deepened our connection with the Government and People of Taiwan; to not just be on the receiving end of the generosity of Taiwan but to give back where we could and partner with Taiwan in a way that assists them in achieving their goals and furthers the advancement of both our peoples.
St Lucia delegation visits Taiwan
This trip by the Saint Lucia delegation to Taiwan and the visit by the Taiwan Foreign Minister to Saint Lucia in January, shows that both our countries are committed to each other. We are steadfastly devoted to developing a deeper bond and our actions have shown it.
Our government’s latest discussions with Taiwan include continued cooperation in the areas of technology, agriculture, trade and assistance with the redevelopment of the Hewanorra International Airport. I look forward to sharing more of the good news with the people of Saint Lucia on this particular agreement.
We also continue to be proud of our Saint Lucia students in Taiwan, who represent our country every day, by learning the culture and sharing our own.
We thank President Tsai Ing-wen for her immense hospitality. We also thank His Excellency Dr. Lee Ta-wei and Taiwan Ambassador H.E. Douglas C. T. Shen for being such great hosts and allowing us to share in the celebration of Taiwan’s 107th National Day.
It has been an honour to represent Saint Lucia on this official visit and to see our flags flown high, side by side. On behalf of the people of Saint Lucia, we continue to wish our friend, Taiwan, great prosperity.️"
