PM thanks heroic fire officers for quick response to Voyager fire
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet posted the following on Facebook earlier today, Thursday, November 21, 2019:
"Today many watched or saw images of one of the buildings in our city center go up in flames. Thankfully there were no casualties reported so far and the fire has been contained and brought under control.
I say a heartfelt thank you to our heroic fire officers and our emergency response personnel for their quick action. I want to thank the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), the Fire Chief and the deputy Fire Chief, as well as the teams of officers who came to help from the Babonneau, Gros Islet and Dennery Fire Stations.
The police also deserve our thanks for managing the traffic and pedestrians and ensuring people were brought to safe areas. They all mobilized very quickly in order to quell the fire and I have no doubt that this cooperation by all our emergency response teams saved lives.
Based on initial reports the entire Voyager building has been gutted and some nearby structures have been affected. My heart goes out to the business community and all who have been impacted by today’s blaze.
Let us continue to do all we can as a nation to encourage fire safety and take the necessary precautions and also listen to the directions of our emergency personnel. We will continue to monitor the situation."
