Police confirm identity of woman found burned in SUV in Gros Islet

Police have confirmed the identity of the woman found burned in an SUV along the Massade, Gros Islet Highway on February 23, 2020.

Corporal Ann Joseph of the Police Press Relations Office spoke to reporters at a police press conference earlier this morning, Monday, March 2, 2020.

She stated that the victim has been identified formally as Kristel George, 30, of Vieux Fort.

Joseph also stated that Mervin Jeremie Constantine of Church Street, Gros Islet was charged in relation to this homicide on February 27, 2020, and has been remanded until March 11, 2020.

Joseph confirmed that George had been reported missing prior to being found burned in the vehicle. She also noted that the vehicle was not registered in her name.

The discovery of the victim's remains was made about 2.20 am February 23 when both police and fire officials responded to reports of a vehicular fire.

Upon extinguishing the blaze, the remains of what appeared to be a female was discovered.

According to fire and police officials, the body was burned beyond recognition, making it extremely difficult to identify.

A post mortem examination has been conducted but police are not releasing the results to the public.
