Police investigating if recently seized gun was stolen from officer

Police are pursuing information that could lead to a breakthrough and the recovery of a stolen firearm that was taken from an off-duty officer who worked security at Twist bar in Grand Riviere last November. 

In custody is Stephen Vidal, said to be a Grand Riviere resident. Police detained Vidal on September 11 after executing a search on a minibus which they stopped along the Union highway.  

Vidal was arrested after a 9mm pistol with a quantity of ammunition was recovered during the search.

Police are working to determine whether the gun which was allegedly found in Vidal's possession is the same one that was taken during the Twist robbery that occurred some nine months ago.

Stephen Vidal has subsequently been charged with illegal firearn and ammunition possession and is reportedly awaiting his next court hearing.
