Police investigating suspected Grass Street suicide

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) is investigating a suspected suicide after a Grass Street, Castries resident was found suspended in his home.

The discovery was made around 5 am Tuesday, April 7, 2020.

According to a resident, reports were made to the police prior to the alleged suicide.

The resident said that the man had made an attempt last night and the police were called but did not enter the home after the man said that he was fine.

The same resident said that the man had been saying unusual things in the last couple of days and that he had stated he was agitated about the coronavirus quarantine.

The incident shocked the community Tuesday morning.

The deceased leaves behind one daughter who resided with him at the time of his death

According to suicide prevention site SAVE.org, warning signs include talking about wanting to die or wanting to kill oneself, looking for a way to kill oneself, and increasing the use of alcohol or drugs.

Saint Lucia recorded nearly a dozen suicides in 2019.
