Police recover two illegal firearms in Corinth operation
The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force (RSLPF) arrested two men for illegal firearm possession during an operation at Nobert Road in Corinth, Grand Riviere.
The operation took place on Sunday, March 1, 2020, by the Drug Unit of Castries.
“Two males were arrested and are waiting to be charged for the offence of possession of firearms and ammunition without a valid license, two firearms were recovered during that operation,” Corporal Ann Joseph told reporters Monday.
Last week, a Corinth, Gros Islet resident was arrested and charged with possession of a 9mm handgun and 16 rounds of ammunition, when he attempted to enter a nightclub in Rodney Bay.
The individual has since been remanded at the Bordelais Correctional Facility until May 13, 2020, when he is expected to make his second court appearance.
According to Corporal Joseph, the recorded successes of the RSLPF of late has been attributed to collaborations the public and the police, and even the local media.
“You’ve helped immensely in terms of sensitization, putting the information out there. “We have information that comes through, the hotline has been working very well, and all of those things so it is not any one thing, there are new strategies put in place; all of which contributed to the success.”
