Road rehabilitation underway in Gros Islet
Parliamentary representative for Gros Islet, Lenard Montoute is excited over the rehabilitation road works to be executed in his constituency.
“We are continuing to improve the road network across the constituency of Gros Islet to make the commuting journey for motorists and pedestrians smoother and safer,” Montoutue told constituents Monday.

The MP took time off on Monday, May 19, 2020, going house to house to house to inform residents of the official commencement of the La Retraite Bridge Reconstruction and the La Retraite Road Rehabilitation project.
“Effective tomorrow, Monday, May 20, 2020, the La Retraite Bridge will be closed for a period of three weeks to allow for the construction of an entirely new bridge,” Montoute said, adding, “Commencing Monday, May 25, 2020, work will also officially commence on the rehabilitation of the La Retraite road, which involves the reconstruction of approximately 1217 meters of road.”
The project scope also includes the construction of drainage, retaining walls and road realignment.
In addition to the La Retraite Bridge Reconstruction project taking place in the north of the island is the reconstruction of the Union/Grand Riviere and Marisule roads which began on May 12.

“This project will rehabilitate approximately 4450 meters of road. The project scope also includes the construction of drainage and retaining walls and improvement to residence access.
As part of the current phase, construction teams have commenced drainage clearing. Surface reclamation is scheduled to start in the coming weeks.”
Residents and motorists are advised that the construction activity will generate some inconveniences, dust and noise pollution.
These new roads in Union/Grand Riviere/Marisule are being constructed to be climate-resilient.
