Senior Tridents need to strike gold in Concacaf Group A Final
Senior Tridents team
Barbados men’s senior football team will have it all to play for tonight when they take on Cayman Islands in their final Concacaf Nations League Group A encounter at the Barbados Football Association (BFA) Wildey Turf at 8 pm.
The senior Tridents surrendered top spot in their group when they suffered their second defeat of the competition last Saturday evening at the Raymond E. Guishard Technical Center versus St Martin.
Barbados conceded in the 81st minute, when France Ligue Two forward Yannick Chevalier slotted his one-on-one effort under the body of goalkeeper Kishmar Primus.
Cayman Islands benefited from Barbados’ mishap and leaped into the top spot by defeating the United States Virgin Islands (USVI) 1-0 and subsequently moving onto 12 points; three more than Barbados.
When Barbados and the Cayman Islands met eight weeks ago in George Town, the home team emerged 3-2 victors in a very entertaining and nerve-wrecking encounter.
Barbados will be looking to switch that result around at home and earn promotion to League B of the competition.
A number of key players were missing from the starting roster versus St Martin and coach Russel Latapy may wring in the changes this evening to get the desired result.
The Barbados Defense Force Sports Programme (BDFSP) duo of Akeem Hill and Omani Leacock, along with Weymouth Wales talisman Hadan Holligan who did not feature against St Martin, can resume their starting duties in a game that requires all hands on deck.
