Soufriere residents fear gang violence getting out of control

A Soufriere man is hospitalized after being shot twice in his leg in an incident residents believe to be gang-related.

Zachariah Esnard was shot in Fond Bernier, Soufriere, last night, Tuesday, June 24, 2020, about 11.15 pm.

As of this morning, one person was in custody assisting police with their investigations into the matter.

Residents say that there has been an increase in gang-related violence in the community recently and expressed fear that if something is not done to deal with the problem, it may soon spiral out of control.

A few weeks ago, two men of the community were attacked by four masked men while walking in New Development. One received a gunshot wound to his leg and the other laceration to his left palm.

Police have identified Palmist and Fond Bernier as the homes of two gangs in the community.
