St Lucia's 'Bloody Sunday' sets ominous tone for the new year

Multiple violent killings marked the second Sunday of 2017 in St Lucia.
Three have been confirmed dead after a shooting in Jacmel on Sunday, January 8th. The victims have been identified as Gillan Charles (37), Dequan Joseph (16) and Kyle Nelson aka Kyle Richard (age unknown). It was reported that a group of men opened fire at a barbeque held in Bois Den, Jacmel, killing Charles and Joseph immediately. Richard was later pronounced dead at Victoria Hospital.
An investigation is currently being carried out as this incident occurred just a few miles away from a fatal shooting in Marigot earlier that day.
Authorities fatally gunned down a man at Marigot Bay at approximately 11:00 am on Sunday, January 8th. The victim, who has been identified as Nazareth of Fond Mangé, Marigot, was reportedly shot in the head and later pronounced dead by medical personnel.
Details as to why the man was shot are unclear.
A woman is now is police custody after fatally stabbing her boyfriend in Grande Riviere, Corinth on Sunday, January 8th. It is alleged that the incident occurred due to a verbal and physical dispute between the two earlier that night.
This marks the fifth death within the last 24 hours.
