Taiwan Embassy thanks Lucians for goodwill following earthquake

The Embassy of the Republic of China (Taiwan) would like to convey its sincere gratitude to all Saint Lucians who have expressed condolences and support for the victims of the Hualien earthquake.

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Taiwan’s east coast city of Hualien on 6 February, 2018 causing several buildings to collapse. So far, 17 fatalities were recorded, and over 800 people needed to be relocated. Search and rescue missions have been in full operation to save trapped victims from the wreckage.

Honourable Allen Chastanet, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, called Ambassador Douglas Shen immediately after the news broke out, to convey his condolences on behalf of the government and people of Saint Lucia. The Embassy also received many messages of support from Cabinets ministers, dignitaries and friends from all walks of life.

On behalf of the government and people of Taiwan, the Embassy would like to offers its heartfelt appreciation for these gestures of goodwill and friendship.
