Created : 16 November 2018
A Trinidadian restaurant in Atlanta visited by stars like Denzel Washington and Samuel L Jackson says their doubles are a hot seller.
The Trini staple, full of spicy and tangy flavours, is popular among visitors to Tassa Caribbean, a Trinidadian-run restaurant in Atlanta, USA.
The restaurant, opened in 2006,and has been frequented by Hollywood stars.
There are now two locations – in the towns Marietta and Alpharetta – boasting delicious Trini and Caribbean cuisine and, of course, the best doubles and the freshest roti.
Owner Radhika “Ria” Edoo, who describes herself as a self-taught food creator and passionate entertainer, moved to Atlanta with her family after visiting for the 1996 Olympics.
In a recent interview with WXIA-TV’s At The Table, the restaurant owner said it was then that the family fell in love with Atlanta and decided that they wanted to move.
While visitors to Tassa Caribbean haven’t gotten the hang of eating the fried flat bread (baras), filled with mixture of sauces and chickpeas the Trini way (with your hands), customers can’t get enough of this comfort food.
“It’s a comfort food, and Atlanta’s all about comfort food,” Edoo said.
“This dish is a melting pot. You don’t see only one part of the people eating it. Black people will come, white people will come.”
Let the aroma of curry draw you in to Tassa Caribbean, where you can be sure to get oxtails, curry goat, chicken roti and all authentic flavours of Trinidad and Tobago, and the Caribbean region.
