Teenager charged for 'friendly fire' death of Jamaican school girl

A 15-year-old boy who was taken into custody in relation to the recent death of a 15-year-old girl in Seaview Gardens, St Andrew, Jamaica has been charged by the police.

The deceased is Olivia Gonzales, who attended Tarrant High School. She died from gunshot injury on June 30.

Reports from the police indicated that Gonzales was among a group of friends who were reportedly handling an illegal firearm, when the weapon went off, hitting Gonzales, who was later pronounced dead.

Two suspects were subsequently taken into police custody in relation to the incident.

The 15-year-old boy has been charged with manslaughter and illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

The other suspect remains in custody as investigators continue to probe the incident.
