What is it like being a Makeup Artist?
Not wanting to sound cliché however “when you do something you are passionate about, it does not feel like work...” yeah that one. The difference with my chosen profession is that I am doing something I love which involves so much more than just being able to slap on makeup. Makeup artistry has technique and standards just as any art form and I am dedicated to continuous improvement, increased knowledge and appreciating my client base.
What is the one thing about you that often surprises people?
I grew up wanting to be a priest and was highly active in my church. And for the most part I am very introverted.
How would you define success?
Success is liking who you are, liking what you do and liking how you do it.
What has been your most humbling experience as a makeup artist?
Booking my first wedding and having the bride call me the day after to thank me for making her feel so pretty. My clients are absolutely amazing and being tagged on their social media photos makes me feel that my work is appreciated.
If you could be remembered for one thing what would it be?
It is for my ability to make everyone feel important and loved. I care about how others feel and do my best to ensure that I create an environment of acceptance, warmth, and humor.
Where is your happy place?
Where I grew up in Franiou, Choiseul near Gros Piton. I grew up picking plums, pineapples, and hiking near the Pitons. When I return my mother makes the best pig tail bouillon.
What is your greatest fear?
My greatest fear is losing my ability to walk.
Animal or Babies?
Babies, I am the best uncle ever.
What talent do you yearn for?
I wish I could sing. My friends and family would be sick of me, I’d even sing when I argue.
What lesson has been the hardest to learn?
Watching my parents grow old has made me come to terms with mortality. Knowing that one day I will not be able to speak to them or hang out with them makes me love them deeper and appreciate them greater.
Tv or Music
Music played on T.V. I have an amazing playlist while I am working that I blast from my T.V.
What food makes you happy?
Sushi, ribs and Prosecco, not necessarily in the order.
What is your guilty pleasure?
I am pageant obsessed. I am always watching for inspiration.
If you had to change one thing in your life what would it be and why?
I would love to be able to cut people off. Because I am so sensitive to people’s feelings, I am the person of many chances. Some of my friends are able to move on from people however I believe in making amends and reconciliations.
What is the business tip you have got and never forgotten?
One of my mentors Mr Ronroy Adams said to me “When people can’t come for your skills, they come for your character and you should never allow them.” It is always wise to stay focused as an entrepreneur, business person on what you do and never get distracted by the noise in the background. Your name is your brand, protect your name, protect your brand.
As a makeup artist is it more important to be liked or respected?
It is extremely important to be respected. When persons respect you as an individual, they will respect everything else that you do. As a makeup artist, if someone respects me they will be on time for my appointments and respect what I do.
What is your personal motto?
LIVING THE “DOUX LIFE” (SWEET LIFE). Live each day like it’s your last. Only YOU can make YOU happy!
