WASCO addresses rumors about water shutdown at the end of March

The Water and Sewerage Company Inc. WASCO wishes to address claims currently being widely circulated on social media, suggesting plans of a water supply shutdown to the north of the island on March 25, 2020.

WASCO wishes to advise the public that as alluded to in a previous press statement, planned maintenance works are scheduled to begin this month on the raw water line from the John Compton Dam. The Babonneau Hill 20 Treatment plant and service areas will not be affected as it is an independent system.

The shutdown which will take place on Wednesday, March 25, 2020 (from 6.00 am onwards) and will be in effect for one day only. The system will be switched back on upon completion of the works once no unforeseen eventualities occur.

These works are routine and take place during the dry season when weather conditions are more conducive for such excavations and pipe works. We, therefore, advise persons that will be affected to conserve water and store an adequate supply for usage during routine maintenance break.

WASCO is, however, mindful of customer concerns regarding any possible impact that the planned works may have, particularly following the emergency shut down some three weeks ago.

In light of this, WASCO assures the public that every effort will be made to keep consumers informed through a series of targeted public communications in advance to ensure that no one is unduly affected by the one-day maintenance works.

WASCO also wishes to remind consumers that routine maintenance works on the raw water line is not novel, and has been undertaken in the past with minimal disruption to the public.

WASCO again stresses that adequate notice to customers will be disseminated to the public well in advance of these planned works.

In addition, WASCO urges the public to guard against the spread of unofficial information on social media purporting to emanate from the company. Official information from WASCO can be obtained via our website, www.wascosaintlucia.com, our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/wascowaterworks/.

Official Company information can also be obtained from our Communications Office and on Official Press Releases bearing the Company's logo.
