CCSS employee tests positive for COVID-19

Saint Lucia has recorded another COVID case, bringing the national figure to thirty-three (33).

Chief Medical Officer, Dr Sharon Belmar George made the disclosure Friday evening.

“Today, Friday, October 16, 2020 the Ministry of Health received confirmation of another case of COVID-19 bringing the number of confirmed cases to date to thirty-three.

The individual is a 62-year-old female who works at the educational institution which case number thirty-two attends.

This individual presented with respiratory signs and symptoms and was tested for COVID-19 and placed in isolation awaiting results.

Upon receiving confirmation of this case of COVID-19 arrangements were made for her transfer to the Respiratory Hospital for care.

Given that this new case resulted from the investigations of the recently diagnosed secondary school student, the Ministry of Health will continue its efforts with a focus on preventing the spread of the infection within communities.

The Ministry of Health once again wants to assure the public that we are undertaking the necessary interventions to protect the health and safety of all. Every individual is reminded that the guidelines for preventing exposure to COVID-19 can reduce the spread of the infection.

This includes:

  • Consistently using face masks in public
  • Washing or sanitizing hands frequently particularly throughout the day
  • Promptly seeking care at the closest Community Respiratory Clinic if experiencing respiratory signs and symptoms

The Ministry of Health and Wellness will continue providing updates on this case as new information is received,” Dr Belmar said.
