There has been no major work done on the Vieux-Fort Police Station, which officers had to abandoned due to health and safety issues, almost six months ago.

Minor work began a few months ago, but work on the leaky roof, one of the issues which led to the building being abandoned, has not commenced.

However, the work which had been progressing at snail’s pace recently halted temporarily.

Repeated attempts to reach officials of the National Insurance Property Development and Management Co. LTD (NIPRO) who is responsible for the maintenance of the station which it built on September 24, 2004, were futile.

NIPRO has constructed 10 police stations and fire stations around the island.

A source told Loop News that work stopped after it was observed that more work is required to refurbish the building than had previously envisaged, which will require more funds.

In the meantime, officers in Vieux-Fort are forced to work under cramped conditions at their new location on Clarke street.

Yesterday, March 5, 2020, the hierarchy of the police force visited the abandoned station.
