PM urges public to report illegal entries as new COVID-19 cases arise
Prime Minister Allen Chastanet has made an urgent plea to all Saint Lucians to report any and all reports of illegal entry into the island.
The call follows the recent confirmation of a third COVID-19 case in less than one week, taking the national count to 18.
According to Prime Minister Chastanet, “What is concerning about this latest case, is that he has no known travel history and comes from an area on the East coast where we continue to receive reports of illegal entry to the island via unofficial channels.
Please report any cases of illegal entry to assist as we continue to intensify our surveillance in these areas. We expect to record more cases due to this latest case of community spread, combined with the fact that our testing capacity has been improved after receiving 5,000 test kits this weekend.”
The latest case, a 51-year-old male, sought care at a respiratory clinic with a dry cough but had none of the accompanying symptoms of COVID-19.
He was detected among a batch of 52 tests which were conducted over the weekend. The other 51 persons tested negative.
“Continue to take the necessary preventative measures. Sanitize yourself frequently, avoid touching your eye, nose and mouth, practice physical distancing, wear a mask when out in public and avoid going out,” Chastanet wrote on his Facebook page.
