An assortment of gym equipment was donated to the Saint Lucia Fire Service and the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force, all thanks to the Make it Happen Foundation as they continue to support the fire and police stations across the island.

"Our firefighters risk their lives daily, and we're honored to offer them a token of thanks and appreciation for everything they do to protect us. We know physical fitness is a critical requirement for our fire and police officers but is often overlooked because of budgetary constraints and we are so pleased that our foundation was able to accede to these request," Founder of the Make it Happen Foundation, Mrs Raquel Du Boulay-Chastanet said Thursday during a handing over ceremony.

The donation was made possible through monies raised through the annual Officers Ball in December.

“Our mandate is not only to outfit the physical premises with equipment, furniture, etc and to effect remedial works to kitchen, bathrooms, dormitories and bathrooms but to try to ensure overall that day to day working conditions are as comfortable as possible.

Physical fitness is a critical component of our jobs and we are so pleased that we are able to assist both police and fire officers by providing access to equipment that will promote, support and encourage healthy lifestyles within the police force and fire service,” said Inspector Lucius Lake, who is also a director of the Foundation.

Similar donations will be made to the Soufriere, Vieux Fort and the Police Training School and the Special Service Unit (SSU).

Other stations received large flatscreen televisions including the Richfond and Choiseul Police Stations and three others each received five waiting room chairs and kitchen stools.

The donations were welcomed by Acting Commissioner of Police Milton Desir, Fire Chief Joseph Joseph and the Police Welfare Association (PWA).

PWA president Travis Chiquot said: "It is indeed timely having operated through the pandemic our police officers were craving for an opportunity to go to the gym to really do some workout, burning that sweat."

“The PWA is forever grateful to the Make it Happen Foundation for their generous donations to the members of the Royal Saint Lucia Police Force over the past four years.

This donation of gym equipment is a fulfilment of a need and a top priority of the PWA, now we can encourage our men and women to practice healthy lifestyles which are integral to the effective execution of our duties.”
