Firearms and ammunition recovered in this morning's operation in Gros Islet

Police have recovered almost 100 firearms and over 1,200 rounds of ammunition to date in 2020 after the tally from the latest operation this morning.

Acting Corporal 806 Ann Joseph, attached to the Public Relations office of the Royal St Lucia Police Force, told reporters: "On Friday, July 31, 2020, a joint operation was conducted by the Gros Islet police station's Criminal Investigations Department, the Special Services Unit and other departments within the Royal St Lucia Police Force, which resulted in the recovery of three firearms and several rounds of ammunition." 

She said: "Two homes were searched in Cas En Bas, Gros Islet. In one of the residences, one Taurus G2c 9mm pistol, one Glock 40 pistol, 95 rounds of .40 ammunition, 10 magazines and 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered by the officers during the conduct of the search."

Joseph said that a male and a female were arrested from that home and they are currently in custody.

"In the second home, one 9mm pistol and 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition were also recovered. In that residence, four persons were arrested, both male and female, and they are also in police custody," Joseph continued.

Joseph noted that no one had yet been charged but officers were expected to do so in short order.
