Prime Minister Allen Chastanet says his government has recognized the importance of sports to nation-building and in doing so has provided an update on works being done on several playing fields across the island.

"The role of sports in developing healthy lifestyles and creating opportunities for rewarding careers should not be underestimated. Sports offers endless opportunities for creating employment and wealth as well as helping to foster national pride," Prime Minister Chastanet observed.

"As a Government, we have made deliberate and strategic investments in sports which we hope will help improve the level and frequency of competitions, help develop world class athletes and serve as a vehicle for encouraging a culture of teamwork, co-operation and discouraging anti-social behavior," Chastanet said via a Facebook post Monday.

To date, the Balata, Fond Assond, Jacmel, Canaries, La Guerre, La Fargue, Choiseul, La Clery and Wenn Playing Field in Micoud have all been upgraded or rehabilitated.

According to the Prime Minsiter: "Work is currently progressing into the final stages in preparation for the laying of the artificial turf surfaces at the National Sports Academy, Soufriere Mini Stadium, Micoud Playing Field and Dennery Playing Field.

On Friday, I visited the Desruisseaux Playing Field which upon completion will include a Synthetic Turf Football Pitch, a Playground and supporting facilities."
