St Lucia Cancer Society embarks on food drive for vulnerable students

The Saint Lucia Cancer Society has embarked on a food donation drive to assist several vulnerable children of the Vide Boutielle Primary School and is calling on members of the public to make a contribution.

President of the Saint Lucia Cancer Society, Dr Tamara Remy, explained the idea behind the initiative.

“We recognize that now with COVID and children being home, we recognized there are a lot of kids being disadvantaged by being home and unable to be part of the school feeding program so I decided  to reach out to a couple of the schools to see how things are going and how we as an organization can help.”

The Vide Boutielle School, according to Dr Remy, was one of the many schools identified as being in need of assistance.

The food donation drive, however, is not the first for the Cancer Society.

“We could not do everybody,” Dr Remy explained.

“We donated a couple of items to a few kids at Laborie Boys Primary School, Vide Boutielle was second and we really wish we could have done all the schools that we worked with over the last school year, but we decided to start with our own community.

Dr Remy is calling on the public to support the initiative by donating nonperishable items at drop off boxes located at Carilec Building, in San Souci.

“We are hoping to drop off the items on Tuesday 23, 2020, we wanted to do it before school close because we not too sure what’s going to happen after so we have made arrangements for the items to be dropped off on the June 23.”
